Easter At The Empty Tomb

As we’ve walked the footsteps of Jesus Christ for the last 6 weeks during our God of Miracles series, we have been tracing Jesus’ life through the Gospel of Mark: Visiting the places where Jesus lived, taught, healed the sick, befriended sinners, performed miracles, and was crucified on a Cross. Wouldn’t it be sad if this is where the story ended? Praise God, the final and most important stop on our spiritual pilgrimage is Christ’s resurrection power during Easter At The Empty Tomb!

On Easter Sunday, Jesus conquered Satan, Sin and Death by rising from the dead…proving he was the Son of God and Savior of the World! We know the tomb where Jesus’ body was laid to rest was probably a man-made cave cut out of limestone hills in the area of Golgotha in Israel. One of the two locations archaeologists believe to be the site of Jesus’ burial and resurrection is the Garden Tomb.

The Garden Tomb was discovered in the 1880’s by General Charles Gordon, a British leader who went to live near Jerusalem to study the Scriptures. While my wife Colleen and I were in Israel this January, we learned that the Garden Tomb was authentically carbon-dated, had a trough for rolling away a stone, showed evidence that a Roman iron pin from the 1st century had been sheared off, and even had a giant rock that you can imagine rolling away on Easter morning!

Friends, this Easter, we do not worship a dead grave…we worship a LIVING GOD who rose from the grave! The resurrection of Jesus is key to our Christian faith. It proves Jesus kept his promise to rise from the dead, so we can have 100% confidence in Christ’s promise to return and resurrect his followers as well! For believers, that means eternal life with Jesus in Heaven. Death no longer has the final word!

This Easter, my prayer for you is to know and accept this truth: The same power that raised Christ to life is available to you and me…to bring our spiritually dead selves back to life! Jesus is alive, and he’s promised to return to take all who believe in Him to our Heavenly home.

Do you have this living hope? Do you understand the power of this promise? Easter means NOTHING can separate you from the LOVE of God….Not even death! Easter is the day that death died. Will you believe in Jesus Christ and his resurrection power this Easter? I encourage you, pray to invite Christ Jesus into your life today to receive his free gift of Salvation!
