I Have Called You By Name

The Chosen: I Have Called You By Name

Today we’re looking at Jesus’ redemption of Mary Magdalene, a female follower of Christ who’s testimony we see throughout the Gospels in the New Testament. Jesus had miraculously cast 7 demons out of Mary, showing his healing power to cast out evil spirits. From Mary’s story, we see that when you believe in Jesus Christ for salvation, you are no longer possessed by your past, defined by your brokenness, or labeled by your mistakes. Like Mary Magdalene, Jesus chooses to RESCUE, RESTORE and REDEEM you! The multi-season show The Chosen takes us on a journey to imagine Mary’s life of brokenness and redemption, forever changed when Jesus calls her by name to follow Him.

Mary Magdalene

Throughout Mary Magdalene’s story, we see there is no one that Christ’s love cannot redeem! We don’t know much of her past, but we do know from Luke 8:1-2 that she had been cured from possession by 7 demons. SEVEN DEMONS! The TV show The Chosen uses creative license to show a descent into darkness that may have left Mary open to this spiritual attack. But when nobody else could help her, she miraculously met Jesus. Right in the midst of her pain and desperation, Jesus delivered Mary from her demons – and He can deliver you, too.

He Has Called You By Name

If you feel like Mary Magdalene today – broken, overwhelmed, hopeless – can I tell you that Jesus is calling you? He’s inviting you to leave your regret, your shame and your guilt to receive God the Father’s love, bought for you through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. In Mark 2:17 Jesus tells us, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

Delivered To Your Destiny

See, the devil wants nothing more than to make you feel like you didn’t just make a mistake, but that you ARE the mistake. But Jesus calls you by name – just like He called Mary – and says that you are His! There is nothing Christ can’t redeem. Nobody He can’t make whole by the saving power of His love and grace. You know, Mary Magdalene was saved from demon possession to become a follower of Christ, and John 20:1-8 tells us that she was the first to enter the tomb and meet with the Risen Jesus! God delivered Mary to her destiny – and He’ll deliver you too. Jesus sees past your brokenness and into what He has purposed and planned for YOUR life – will you turn to Him today?
