Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour. – Matthew 25:13
Congratulations, friends… You made it! This is Pastor Tim writing on Day 40 of our journey with the Holy Spirit. It’s been a remarkable season of growth in our church’s life. We’ve had hundreds of small groups gathering for Spirit-filled prayer, Bible study… and anointed worship!
Praise God! It’s exciting to see a palpable hunger for the Holy Spirit sweep across our entire church. As we bring our 40-day journey to a close, I want to share a final reflection from my friend R.T. Kendall.
Dr. Kendall once spoke on “The Midnight Cry” based on Matthew 25:1-13. Jesus told this parable for several reasons:
- First, to sound an alarm: Before Jesus returns, the Church at large will be in the middle of a deep sleep. Sound familiar?
- Second, the church will be made up of two types: those who are wise (who are pursuing the Spirit by taking oil in their lamps); and those who are foolish (who lack oil)
- Third, there will be a cry in the middle of the night when no one expects it: “Here is the bridegroom! Come out and meet him!”
Put simply: Before Jesus returns, a wake-up call is on the way! Kendall believes that the midnight cry will usher in the final great move of God on the earth before the Second Coming. When the Word & Spirit finally come together in Jesus’ Church, the simultaneous combination will result in spontaneous combustion igniting the greatest revival since Pentecost.
If a great movement of the Holy Spirit comes soon (and it may!)… are you ready for it? Is your lamp full of oil? Do you have the Holy Spirit in increasing measure so that when revival comes, you may join the celebration? Or will you be on the outside looking in?
I pray that this 40 Days with the Holy Spirit journey is just the beginning of a lifetime of Spirit-filled living until Christ returns for His bride.
Three months before his death, British evangelist Smith Wigglesworth (1859-1947) gave this stirring prophecy:
“When the Word and Spirit come together, there will be the biggest movement of the Holy Spirit that the nation, and indeed the world, has ever seen.”
Even so, come Lord Jesus. Holy Spirit, come!
May the blessing of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit rest upon you, now and forevermore. Amen.
