Baptism FAQ

We love that you're asking questions! Here's what you need to know about baptism.

Why should I be baptized?

We get baptized because Jesus commands us to do so! See what he says in the Bible:

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” - Matthew 28:19-20

Jesus set the example by being baptized Himself (Matthew 28: 19-20, Mark 1:9). Obedience to Jesus shows we believe Him and are following Him with our whole heart. Being baptized shows that we are committed to turning away from a life of sin toward Jesus, the only one who can change us (Acts 2:38-41).

When is the best time to be baptized?

Anyone who commits his or her life to following Jesus is ready to be baptized (Acts 8:12). So, if you've decided to follow Jesus, then it's the right time to be baptized!

I was baptized as a baby, should I be baptized as an adult?

Maybe you were baptized or sprinkled as an infant, but you’ve never been baptized by immersion. We invite you to take that next step and make a personal decision to be baptized.

Baptisms in the Bible were by immersion, and Jesus was baptized by being immersed in the water and rising out of it (Matthew 3:16, Mark 1:10). Being submersed in the water represents our death to sin and old way of life, and being raised out of the water is a picture of how Jesus gave us a fresh start in life (Romans 6:3-5).

Do I need to be baptized again?

If you have been baptized by immersion since you decided to follow Jesus, there is no need to be baptized again. However, if you’ve never been baptized as an adult after personally choosing to follow Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, we invite you to take your next step of being baptized.

Do you baptize children?

As parents, we can help point our children to Jesus, but they are the ones to decide if they will commit their lives to Him: “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” - Romans 10:9

At Liquid, we want children to express their own decision to follow Jesus and to truly understand the meaning of baptism. If a child is in 8th grade or under, they must go through our baptism class “We Believe” prior to being baptized. A parent must attend this class with their child. This will ensure your child is ready for this exciting and important step in their spiritual journey!

Once I register to be baptized, what happens next?

When registration is open for baptisms, you can sign up and a campus baptism candidate liaison will contact you and explain your next steps. (click here to register for Spring Baptisms on April 7th)

All baptism candidates are required to attend a baptism class. At this class you will learn more about this next step in your spiritual journey, understand what Liquid Church believes about baptism, and meet some of the people who will be baptized on the same day.

If registration isn’t open, you’re invited to join our interest list. Join the list and you’ll be among the first to know when registration opens for upcoming baptisms.

Ready to take the next step?

We are hosting Spring Baptisms at all Liquid Church locations on Sunday, April 7th. Fill out our registration form to take a next step.
