Eric’s Baptism Story

Liquid Church
Mar 18, 2022

Eric Doropan attends our Liquid Church Middlesex County campus and was baptized in the Fall of 2021 - this is his baptism story.

WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO GET BAPTIZED?

I grew up Roman Catholic and while I was baptized as a child, I have no personal recollection of my baptism, beyond photos I've been shown by my family. As I grew older, I gravitated away from the Roman Catholic Church. I was baptized last Fall at Liquid Church because it was the right next step in my spiritual journey as I've drawn closer to Christ. About four years ago I took a huge step forward in my faith. At the time, I was away from my family for a job in Washington D.C. about 4-5 days out of each week. I was so lonely in that time. It was hard being away from my wife, my son, my sisters, nephews, nieces and my parents. We were going through a lot as a family during that time - my mom was sick, then my sister got diagnosed with cancer. My wife miscarried. I had gotten my dream job and yet it was such a hard year due to what my family was going through. So, in this season I developed a deeper relationship with Christ. My relationship with Jesus kept me strong through this hard time.

WHAT HAS BAPTISM MEANT TO YOU?

Baptism has meant so much to me! I wanted to show the world I am fully committed to Christ, and baptism is a public declaration of the inner transformation I've experienced. Since I started developing a deeper relationship with Christ, my family has still faced hardships, but I have been able to walk through it with Christ. During the pandemic, my wife was diagnosed with cancer, but praise God, she finished her treatment right before my baptism! She is healthy now and has since started coming to Liquid Church services with me.

WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO OTHERS WHO ARE CONSIDERING BAPTISM?

For me, baptism was the next step for my spiritual journey because I had decided I was ready to make the public affirmation and let everyone know I was committed. I felt myself change! One huge change I've noticed since committing to my relationship with Jesus is the OCD and anxiety that I deal with. I knew it was there, but I just never really wanted to address it before. Since I got baptized, I found the strength to face my struggle with anxiety and OCD, bring it to the surface and give it to Christ.

Certain situations that I face, I handle so differently now because of my faith. In the end, this decision to get baptized is really between you and Christ Jesus. Think of it like a marriage ceremony in a way - you are making it known that you have made this commitment.
