The Week That Changed The World

Not all weeks are created equal! There are some weeks in our lives that stand out from all the others because of the events that occurred. It changed everything. We all have had life-changing moments, even our Saviour, Jesus!

During the last week of the season of Lent, called Holy Week, we join Jesus as he walks through the final stretch toward his death and resurrection. In the first week, we see Jesus riding into Jerusalem, being celebrated as king, but how does a celebrated King's body end up lying in a tomb? This week of disparity embodies a wide range of emotions and expressions for believers—from unrestrained praise to deep mourning.

PALM SUNDAY

What a difference a week can make! As we follow the last week of Jesus' earthly life, come and journey with us. This week begins with what happened on Palm Sunday. It's considered the first day of the final week. Here is where Jesus made His triumphal entry into Jerusalem. Be encouraged; our Savior knew all that would happen to him that week! Let's look at what Jesus told His disciples in Mark 10:32. Three times, Jesus made it known to them that he was going to Jerusalem, where He would suffer and die.

What ends in a crucifixion begins as a coronation of a king -- King Jesus! When He entered Jerusalem, He rode into the city on a donkey, and people spread palm branches on the road, which they had cut in the fields. And this is why this Day is called Palm Sunday. They celebrated His arrival, but the religious leaders were intimidated by Jesus. Here is when they devise a plan to falsely accuse Jesus, secretly arrest Him, and ultimately have Him sentenced to death. But here's the good news, the story doesn't end there; death is not the finality!

DON’T JOURNEY ALONE: LIFE IS BETTER IN COMMUNITY!

The entire life of Jesus was a prelude to the events and teachings during his final week. One-half of all four Gospel accounts focus on the last week of Jesus's ministry. If this week was so important to the Gospel writers, should we not consider its importance for our own lives today? As we reflect on all that occurred during Holy Week, we gain a greater understanding of the mission of Jesus. It is a thought-provoking, heart-wrenching week leading to the most iconic historical event: the resurrection of Jesus, our Redeemer, and King.

God is inviting us to walk together, along with Jesus. So, therefore, we encourage you to travel with others. Jesus brought His friends to Jerusalem with Him, and you also need to. Community is so vital; you don't have to walk alone. It's a perfect time to join a small group.

Hebrews 10:24-25 says, And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. You don't have to travel alone; your community is here!
